For most decks you need to reduce the belt diameter by 5%. But belt size is very dependent on the particular mechanism, some decks need it tighter. You can try belts 90% and 95%.
The deck belt is the one that powers the blades and the drive belt powers the tractor's motion. The deck belt comes with the deck when you remove the deck but the drive belt remains with the tractor.
Take your existing pants size and then add two inches to the number. For instance, if your pants waist size is 38, then your belt size would be 40. You can also find your belt size by measuring a belt you already own that fits well.
Featured on classic V-belts are markings, i.e. profile and number, which stands for the inner length, given in inches. This is followed by a number representing millimetres, Li, which stands for the inner length. Marked on narrow belts are the profile and length in millimetres, Lw, which stands for the working length.
Can I change a serpentine belt on my own? Yes, with a few tools. Use a long-handled socket wrench to loosen the tensioner. This will allow you to remove the old belt.
The biggest cause of belts flying off of a mower deck is that the customer does not know that you MUST engage the mower with the engine running at FULL THROTTLE. Engaging the mower at anything less than full throttle can throw the belt off. The next thing that will cause this is an IDLER pulley beating that is dry.
A casual belt will be 1.5-1.75 inches in width, with wider being more casual. A belt around 1.5” in width goes well with denim, chinos, and heavier fabrics. A belt wider than that is more unusual, suits jeans and casual trousers, and can be paired with classic and “statement” buckles.
To replace the lawn mower belt, you will need to measure the belt's length and width to find a proper replacement. Set the belt flat on a hard covering. Measure the belt by covering the cloth tape measure around the belt. For broken belts, easily measure the full length of the belt.
Measure around your waist, about 4 inches above where your pants are. *Do not "suck in", measure in a relaxed state, then pull the measuring tape tight. Use this measurement to choose your correct belt size. Take that measurement and use the size guide on the belt you are interested in ordering.
