The Biggest Disney+ Releases In 2024
Beyond what's new and coming soon, here are some of the big releases to hit Disney+ this year...
Echo - Released January 2024
Echo the Hawkeye spinoff series may have been a somewhat surprising choice for Marvel Studios, but nearly everything about the series was a surprising choice. It was the first TV-MA-rated series produced by Marvel Studios for Disney+. While not all critics loved Echo, it was a successful proof of concept for mature Marvel shows, and we're expecting more in other upcoming Marvel series on Disney+. And the Echo ending is almost certain to have a major impact on the MCU.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians had been attempted on the big screen once before with mixed results. Disney+ took the series, about a young boy discovering he's a demigod, back to the beginning, and reimagined it as a series, and appears to have found a winner. The show's first season was a big hit and a second season of Percy Jackson has been confirmed.
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version
Nobody is a bigger star right now than Taylor Swift, which made it a major coup when Disney+ grabbed the exclusive streaming right to her Eras Tour concert film. Fans now have the ability to watch it whenever they like.
Wish
Wish ticked all the boxes of a great Disney animated film. It had a strong female protagonist, some solid music, and a diabolical villain. Unfortunately, Wish failed to thrill the box office. It had a strong early showing on Disney+, and it appears to have found its home.
The Bad Batch
A spinoff of Dave Filoni's The Clone Wars animated series, The Bad Batch followed a group of clones that avoided being brainwashed by Order 66, and just tried to survive under the new Empire. The final season of the popular show debuted in 2024, seemingly bringing Filoni's animated Star Wars universe to a close as he turns his attention to directing an upcoming Star Wars movie for the big screen.
X-Men '97
The '90s X-Men animated series was one of the most popular things adapted from Marvel Comics prior to the MCU. Rather than try to recreate the magic o that series. Marvel Animation instead simply created brand new episodes to pick up where the original series had left off. The show has received a lot of positive response from both fans and critics and a second season of the show is already on the way/
The Acolyte
The newest entry in the saga of the galaxy far, far away has reached its conclusion. The Acolyte was a somewhat divisive series, with not everybody loving what it brought to the Star wars franchise. However, those that did enjoy it fully embraced it and are hoping for a second season.
The world of streaming is always changing, and Disney+ has a tendency to announce new series and movies coming to the platform with little notice, so follow along with us as we keep tabs on everything coming to Disney+ as it is announced.
