The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office broke up a large underage drinking party over the weekend.
Around midnight Sunday, the sheriff’s office was notified of the party going on in an open field 3 miles southeast of Norfolk, said Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger in a press release. Upon officers’ arrival, it was verified that a group of underage minors were present consuming alcoholic liquor.
A further investigation led to the arrest of three young adults on suspicion of driving under the influence and minor in possession as they allegedly drove from the party area. Numerous other minors were also charged with MIP, and three underage males who were detained at the scene and then fled on foot were charged with MIP and obstructing a police officer, Unger said.
The alleged party host was identified and cited for aiding and abetting MIP.
“Even though it's unpopular with many people, the sheriff’s office will continue to strictly enforce alcohol laws and violations involving minors, and especially those that may involve moving vehicles,” Unger said.
